Jhowbona is a fairly large village in the district of Murshidabad, in the state of West Bengal in India. It is a racially mixed village with a 70 percent Hindu population and 30 percent Muslim population. / The village was first established in the year 1822 by half a dozen families. It is not known who were those original families and where didthey come from. The name Jhowbona means Pine Forest. Apparently there were pine trees in and around the village when the name was selected. / The village is situated at 23.55.33.41North and 88.21.53.57East. It’s elevation is 64 feet from the sea level. It is on the east side of the river Ganga. Closest town is Beldanga – eight miles from west from thevillage. The road connecting Jhowbona to Beldanga (that’s where the railway station is) was built around 1955. There are two rivers which surround the village – Ramdahora and Suti. Although in the mid and late 1900 thereused to be water in the riversaround the year but today both the rivers dry out in summer like most of the rivers in West Bengal. Current population is about 6,500.
